Starr Sutherland: Producer
Starr Sutherland is a San Francisco-based producer of art and music video projects. His documentary Percy Mayfield: Poet Laureate of The Blues won a John Handy music award, and his early digital work for IPA was the first recipient of a Clio award for interactive advertising. He has worked with a wide range of artists including Don Cherry, John Lee Hooker, Charlie Musselwhite, Larry Ochs, Luther Tucker, Dr. Wild Willie Moore, Francis Clay, Randy Rose, Cheb I Shaba and Joshua Brody. He has also produced DVDs for The Residents, AntFarm, the ROVA jazz ensemble and Lewis ‘Buster’ Simpson.
John Anderson: Director
John Anderson is an Emmy-winning and Grammy-nominated Director, Executive Producer and Editor, whose work has aired on PBS, A&E, MTV, VH1, Showtime, Cinemax, HBO, FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS, MuchMusic, the BBC and elsewhere around the world. His list of directorial clients includes Warner Brothers Records, Capitol/EMI, Sanctuary Visual Entertainment, Image Entertainment, Rhino Home Video, Giant Records and The Walt Disney Company.
John was nominated for a Grammy for his direction of “Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE”, the double-platinum selling DVD release from Warner Brothers/Rhino Home Video. The live performance DVD, which Brian Wilson hails as “a masterpiece”, marked Anderson’s fourth DVD collaboration with the Beach Boys leader, and the relationship continues; in 2012, Anderson directed, edited and co-wrote “The Beach Boys: Doin’ It Again”, a PBS documentary about the legendary band’s 2012 reunion, and produced the video content that was part of the group’s 73-date worldwide tour.
The list of other musical artists he has worked with includes Pete Townshend, Neil Young, Ray Davies, Paul McCartney, Patti Smith, Kanye West, John Fogerty, Elvis Costello, Jack White, Sheryl Crow, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, Steve Miller, Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris, Eric Burdon, Tiny Tim, Todd Rundgren, John Cage, Tom Jones, Hubert Sumlin, Fountains of Wayne, Phil Ochs and Mike Smith of The Dave Clark 5.
Recent directorial projects include “Born In Chicago,” a feature-length documentary on the Chicago blues. Starring Bob Dylan, BB King, Jack White, Hubert Sumlin, Steve Miller, Keith Richards and others, the film had its World Premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. It has also screened at Chicago's Gene Siskel Film Center, at New York City's Lincoln Center and, in May 2015, at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles."
